Exhibit Showcases Work by Dana Lofink, GAC Resident Potter

Guilford Art Center is pleased to announce an exhibition of ceramic work by Dana Lofink, GAC’s resident potter. The exhibition is on view in the gallery August 21 – September 4, with an opening reception on Friday, August 23 from 6-8 pm, which is free and open to the public.

Dana graduated in May, 2019 from Hartford Art School (HAS), University of Hartford, with a BFA in ceramics and a minor in art history. She is the fourth artist to serve in the position of GAC resident potter, and this exhibition is the culmination of her work during her time at GAC. She has been responsible for working with pottery students, overseeing the facility’s studio practice times, and providing inspiration through her presence and her own creativity. The position is designed to provide the Resident with time and space to develop their own ceramic art while contributing to the workings of a communal pottery studio.

The works featured in the exhibition are representative of Dana’s interest in multiples, accumulations, and arrangements. There is also a strong theme of home and private spaces. “The work is heavily inspired by personal experiences, and is often emotion-driven–manifestations of particular emotions/headspaces, etc.,” says Dana. She is enthusiastic about the experience that the residency has provided her with: “I’ve felt so much support during my time at GAC and have been surrounded by so many talented, creative, and kind people. It will be sad to go, but I am definitely a better artist for having been here.”

GAC’s ceramics studio offers classes for adults and children, Home School programs, weekend workshops, and summer classes for children. The studio is equipped with 12 wheels, a hand building table, 3 electric kilns, slab roller, extruder, outdoor downdraft gas kiln, raku kiln, and a glaze mixing room. Students may work with four different clay bodies, and a large selection of glazes.

The opening reception and exhibition are free and open to the public.

Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, Saturday, 10am-4pm and Sunday 12-4pm.
