Trend-Setting Jewelry For One Evening Only
at Guilford Art Center’s Holiday Sale
Jewelry & Prosecco Night Features
New Designers and Italian Sparkling Wine

Show-stopping jewelry and sparkling Italian wine will be paired for an evening of shopping and merriment at Artistry on the Green, Guilford Art Center’s Holiday Sale of Fine Craft & Art. Jewelry & Prosecco will take place Thursday evening, December 6, from 5 to 8 pm. The event this year is taking place at 102 Broad Street, Guilford, on the Guilford Green, in the former Trailblazer building, which the Guilford Art Center has moved into for the holiday season.

Jewelry & Prosecco will spotlight handmade pieces by eight jewelry designers specially invited to show their work for this evening. Their designs exemplify the latest trends in fashion jewelry. “I’m particularly excited about introducing this jewelry into the Artistry event,” says Jean Perkins, the Art Center’s executive director. “We’ve always featured jewelry, but this year we are introducing amazing pieces from new designers, from near and far, who are participating for the first time. All of their work is unique and looks beautiful when worn. We’ve chosen jewelry that makes you feel terrific when you walk out the door.”
Visitors are also invited to enjoy a bubbly glass of Prosecco as they shop and browse among the objects on view. Prosecco for the evening is being donated by Frank’s Package Store in Guilford and the distributor Mionetto USA. “This festive and elegant beverage seemed a natural to offer at this stylish evening,” says Perkins.

Artistry on the Green provides a spacious downtown location for the Guilford Art Center’s much-anticipated annual sale. Artistry’s is filled with handmade crafts and art, including ceramics, glass, wood, fiber, leather, ornaments, and more. Throughout the season, Artistry will feature music, refreshments, and special events. Personal shoppers and a “Wish List” Gift Registry will also be available. Proceeds benefit the Guilford Art Center.

Featured Artists:

Heather Benjamin of Los Angeles creates delicate pieces of gold, silver and colored stones, working with artisans from Bali, Indonesia.

Ann Craig, of La Jolla, California, makes one-of-a-kind “ethnic” necklaces fashioned from beads and other objects collected from around the world, often mixing elements from vastly varied locations.

The duo of Elissa Ehlin and James Leritz of Kiln Enamel , of Brooklyn, New York, combine vibrant colors and simple, elegant shapes for their modernist-inspired enameled metal necklaces, earrings and bracelets.

Marlane Liddell of Washington, DC, collects “items of sacred and personal adornment,” from third-world countries and ancient civilizations (many collected during her 30-year career as editor of Smithsonian Magazine) and incorporates them into contemporary designs that connect craftsmanship across generations and continents.

The line of jewelry on view by Kristin Lora of Santa Fe, New Mexico, incorporate miniature figures scavenged from toy trains—travelers and commuter--whimsically suspended in metal hoops and squares.

Chihiro Makio’s latest line of jewelry is inspired by an orange tree in her yard in Somerville, Massachusetts. Necklaces, earrings, bracelets and pins in sterling silver with pierced edges incorporate hand-stitched glass beads.

Maria Eudoxia Mellao, from Sao Paulo, Brazil, creates dramatic handmade pieces incorporating large stones, threads and woven elements with varied textures and vibrant hues.

Mummy’s Bundle is the line created by Mary and Doug Hancock of Sedona, Arizona, of chokers, bracelets, and necklaces incorporating silver, pre-Columbian figures, pearls, Czech glass, Swarovski crystals, and gemstones inspired by the cultures of the American southwest.

Jewelry & Prosecco is sponsored by Frank’s Package Store and Mionetto USA. Artistry on the Green is also sponsored by Guilford Savings Bank, Anderson Wilcox, Inc., the Jane Marcher Foundation, Fairhaven Furniture, The Village Chocolatier, and Madison Decorating Center.
