Move Over Dr. Seuss!
Noted Author to Teach "Illustrating Children's Books" at Guilford Art Center
Noted children's book author Jamison Odone will conduct a weekend workshop at Guilford Art Center on Illustrating Children's Books, Saturday-Sunday, April 26-27. Designed for students with previous art training, this workshop will offer aspiring authors tools to progress from inspiration toward publication of their book ideas.
Odone, who has studied privately with Maurice Sendak, will encourage students to share their portfolios, stories and project ideas. Students will be shown how to create a visual layout from texts--the rough sketches up to the final finished art ready for publication. Odone will also demonstrate how to create a sample book or "book dummy" as a promotional tool to present to agents and publishers, and will discuss avenues for beginning a career.
Jamison Odone is the author/illustrator of the children's book Honey Badgers. His work has been in several solo and group exhibitions including the exhibit, My First Book. He illustrated The Bedtime Train by the award winning, New Zealand-based, children's author Joy Cowley. His illustrations appear weekly in the Connecticut-based Hersam-Acorn newspapers, and he frequently gives lectures and classes on the art and process of writing and illustrating children's books.
