Curator Lecture on Stony Creek Granite Sculpture
at Guilford Art Center

Guilford Art Center is pleased to announce a lecture presentation by sculptor Darrell Petit on Saturday, June 1, 4pm in the gallery at Guilford Art Center. Petit, a renowned artist and sculptor, will discuss the use of Stony Creek granite for monuments and sculpture, including the quarry process.

The lecture is being held in conjunction with the Art Center's exhibit Sculpture in Stone: Featuring Stony Creek Granite, on view in the gallery May 3-June 2, 2013, which Petit organized. Guilford Art Center has an active stone-carving sculpture program, led by Petit, where artists create work on all scales and exploring a myriad of themes. Artists exhibiting work are Rosemary Cotnoir, Andy Davis, Lee Ellison, Steve North, Rod Recor, Bill Ruffer, and the estate of Larry Smith.

Admission to the lecture and exhibition are free. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday 10am-4pm, Sunday 12-4pm.

Guilford Art Center announces a trunk show featuring American handmade jewelry, clothing and accessories to coincide with Mother's Day, on Saturday, May 4, 11am-2pm. The event features stylish and eye-catching pieces for spring, summer and beyond featuring Andrea Geer, Christine Guanipa, and Faye Guanipa. [read more]


Bells for Boston: Special Offer in Guilford Art Center Shop
to Benefit Boston Marathon Victims

To honor and benefit victims of the Boston Marathon bombing, Guilford Art Center, in conjunction with North Country Wind Bells®, is holding a special offer in the Shop, Bells for Boston. During the month of May, the Art Center will donate 100% of proceeds of the sale of North Country's "Boston Harbor Bell" to "The One Fund Boston," established to help people affected by the tragic events of April 15, 2013. Guilford Art Center Faculty Artists Exhibit Work at Bradley International Airport Connecticut Culture Gallery exhibit on view April through September

Selected art works by faculty artists of the Guilford Art Center will be on view at Bradley International Airport April through September, 2013. Bradley Airport's Terminal A, the Connecticut Culture Gallery, is managed by the Department of Economic and Community Development's Office of the Arts, in partnership with the airport. [read more]

Stony Creek Granite Sculpture Exhibit

Guilford Art Center is pleased to announce Sculpture in Stone: Featuring Stony Creek Granite, highlighting contemporary art works created from this unique, indigenous material by local artists who are active with the Center’s stone carving program. The exhibit will be on view in the gallery May 3-June 2, 2013.

Call to Artists: Contemporary Knife Smithing, A Juried and Invitational Exhibition
Bladesmithing is a thousands-year-old craft practiced in diverse cultures across the world. It has survived as an art form despite modern industrialization, with artisans dedicated to preserving and expanding traditional techniques. This exhibit will explore and highlight the artistry of the contemporary hand-crafted knife, as an object with both functional and aesthetic value.

Grant Supports After School Programs
The Guilford Art Center and Guilford Before and After School Care Receive Joint Grant from Guilford Fund for Education and the Guilford Foundation. The grant supports after school art classes at onsite after school programs.

Summer Youth Program
Registration Now Open

Guilford Art Center announces its 9-week 2013 summer youth program, June 24- August 23. Summer youth classes are designed for students ages 3 1/2 to 13, and offer all sorts of art experiences, from painting and drawing to ceramics, mixed media and more, and on topics from Wild Animals and Undersea Adventures to Sewing a Sock Monkey.

The Art of the Cocktail
A Great Winter Party at Guilford Art Center

Join Guilford Art Center for its second annual cocktail party fundraiser, The Art of the Cocktail, Thursday, February 28, 6-9pm, celebrating creative mixology and fine art, this year with a Latin theme.

Students Showcase Work at Guilford Art Center

New creations by students at Guilford Art Center will be featured in the Student Exhibit in the Center's gallery, February 8-March 10, 2013. The show will highlight recent work in all media by students who have taken classes or workshops at the Center in the past two years. Works by both adult and youth program students will be featured. Opening Reception: February 15, 5-7pm.

Scholarships Available for Classes and Workshops
Financial aid for Guilford Art Center classes and workshops is available. Awards are based on need and interest and are most often partial scholarships, to enable as many students as possible to participate. Scholarship forms are available from the Art Center office and can be downloaded here.
