Giant Tag Sale at Guilford Art Center, Saturday, August 23, 9am-2pm
Artsy goods and more, to benefit school and gallery programs
The Guilford Art Center is holding a Benefit Tag Sale on Saturday, August 23, from 9am to 2pm. The Tag Sale will be held at the Center's campus, 411 Church Street (Route 77), Guilford, opposite the Public Safety Complex. The sale will be filled with all sorts of art-related goods, such as art supplies and equipment, paintings and sculptures, frames, decorative objects, plus lots of other pieces with style and flair. It will be a great place to pick up a bargain and more! Proceeds from the Tag Sale will benefit the Guilford Art Center's school and gallery programs. For information, please call (203) 453-5947.

Donations Needed for Guilford Art Center Benefit Tag Sale
Saturday, August 23
Donations accepted week of August 18
The Guilford Art Center is seeking donations for its Benefit Tag Sale, to be held Saturday, August 23, from 9am to 2pm. The Tag Sale will be held at the Center's campus, 411 Church Street (Route 77), Guilford, opposite the Public Safety Complex. Donations of objects that are art-related are particularly sought, for example: art supplies and equipment, paintings and sculptures, frames, decorative objects, any other pieces with style and flair. No clothing or toys, please.

Donations to the Tag Sale should be dropped off at the Center during the week of August 18, Monday through Friday, from noon to 4pm. All donations are tax deductible. Proceeds will benefit the Guilford Art Center's school and gallery programs.

CRAFT EXPO 2008: Brings America's Finest Crafts Back to the Guilford Green
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, July 17, 18, & 19, 2008

In celebration of its 51st year, the Guilford Art Center's annual Craft Expo returns once again to the scenic and historic Guilford Green, celebrating the arts with its extensive array of handmade crafts by American artists. Craft Expo 2008 will bring approximately 175 artists to Guilford--a mix of first-time and returning exhibitors, whose exquisite-quality handmade crafts consistently help rank this event as one of the top craft shows in New England and the country.

Guilford Art Center Annual Gala Bedazzles This Year
Benefit Party on the Shores of Stony Creek, Saturday, June 28

The Guilford Art Center is hosting Bedazzle, a benefit gala, on Saturday, June 28 from 6:30 to 10:30pm. This outdoor evening will be held along the shores of Stony Creek and will include dinner, dancing, entertainment and live and silent auctions. Proceeds will benefit the Guilford Art Center.

The Guilford Art Center is joining approximately 200 other organizations and attractions throughout the state to open its doors for Connecticut Open House Day on Saturday, June 14. This statewide event, sponsored by the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism (CCT), is designed to broaden awareness among residents of Connecticut’s remarkable cultural and tourism assets and encourage them to become ambassadors who share their discoveries with visiting family and friends.

Guilford Art Center Seeks Artists for Annual Holiday Sale of Fine Crafts
The Guilford Art Center seeks artists in all fine craft media to apply to be included in
Artistry, the Center’s 30th Annual Holiday Sale of Fine Craft and Art. Artistry will take place October 20 through December 31, 2008. Applications are available by contacting the Guilford Art Center at 203-453-5947, or you may download one here. All work must be handmade in the USA and be of high quality. Jury fee is $15. Submit slides or photos, a minimum of five, with SASE for return of slides, or actual sample work, with funds for return shipping. Application deadline is August 1, 200. Guilford Art Center Announces
3rd Annual Art Achievement Awards – “Visionaries 2008”

The Guilford Art Center announces the recipients of its Third Annual Art Achievement Awards, recognizing individuals for their contributions to the community through art: Natalie Forbes, Executive Director of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, and Kathryn Halloran Greene, owner of the Greene Art Gallery. The Award recipients will be honored at a cocktail reception in the Mill Gallery at the Guilford Art Center on Friday, May 23, from 6-8pm. The gathering is free of charge, and the public is invited to attend.

Guilford Art Center Seeks Craft Expo Volunteers
On the Guilford Green, July 17, 18 & 19
Guilford Art Center seeks volunteers to assist with the 51st annual Craft Expo, once again to be held on the Guilford Green. Craft Expo 2008 is scheduled for Thursday, Friday & Saturday, July 17, 18 & 19. One of Connecticut's oldest and finest outdoor juried craft shows, Craft Expo showcases the best traditional and contemporary high-caliber crafts made by 170 American artists.

Volunteers are crucial during this busy, three-day event. Volunteers are needed to help with: Event setup/breakdown; admissions; booth relief for artists; the Silent Auction of donated crafts; the Kids' Crafts Table and more.
Saturday volunteers are especially needed this year. Saturday volunteers will receive a Free Saturday Admission pass for a friend.

Craft Expo is one of the shoreline's favorite summer events, and one of Guilford Art Center's most important fundraisers, benefiting its School and Gallery programs. All volunteers receive free admission to all 3 days of the event, invitation to the Artists' Dinner, and the fun and camaraderie of supporting Guilford Art Center and its programs for the community through this popular event. Volunteers can work any and all times during the show (most shifts are a minimum of 3 hours). Friends can work together! Teens can earn community service credit.

Move Over Dr. Seuss! Noted Author to Teach "Illustrating Children's Books" at Guilford Art Center
Noted children's book author Jamison Odone will conduct a weekend workshop at Guilford Art Center on Illustrating Children's Books, Saturday-Sunday, April 26-27. Designed for students with previous art training, this workshop will offer aspiring authors tools to progress from inspiration toward publication of their book ideas.

Photographs of Asian Travel by Artist Larry Snider on View at Guilford Art Center
Compelling images of people and places captured during Asian travels will be featured in the Guilford Art Center's exhibition Documenting "The Other": Photographs of China, Myanmar and India by Larry Snider. This solo exhibition features works by Snider, a Chicago-based photographer, who has traveled extensively over the past 30 years, documenting the people and cultures he has encountered. The exhibition is on view May 9 through June 19 in the Center's Mill Gallery.
