ANIMAL TALES

After listening to a charming animal story, children will have a chance to create their own clay animals, and have fun exploring coil, slab, and pinch hand building techniques. Each week we will learn about a different toothed or baleen whale who inhabit our planet. All of this information will then transfer to a large scaled water color painting. Using the principles of water and color a large whale or pod of whales may emerge on an even larger canvas; perhaps a mural?

MAKE YOUR OWN PILLOW CASE

Students will learn to use a sewing machine by creating a pillowcase of their own design. Safety will be stressed as the students learn about the parts of the machine, threading a machine, sewing straight lines, curves, and reverse. For the case, they will start with white fabric on which they will create a design using fabric paint, crayons, rubber stamps, and found objects. Next, a fabric will be selected for the band. COMIC BOOKS AND SEQUENTIAL ART

If you have an interest in comic books, creating character driven stories and like to draw, this class is for you! Whether you love Super-heroes, Sci-fi, Manga, Fantasy or Comedy, the structure within is all the same. We will touch on all the essential tools you'll need to understand the comic book medium. Students will learn all the fundamentals of story-telling art. You will be introduced to several forms of art in the world of comics, from the classic Sunday morning funnies to contemporary main stream and independent comics. Students will learn techniques for developing a story outline, page layout, character design, drawing with perspective, inking and tips on lettering their comics. Using these new techniques, students will then be challenged to develop their own short story by creating a rough outline, several sketches and four pages of finished art. Students should have rudimentary drawing skills and love to draw. Figure drawing or anatomy experience may be helpful but is not necessary. Students are asked to bring with them a medium sized sketchbook. Fee payable with tuition for materials $25.00.

THE POTTER'S WHEEL FOR HOME SCHOOLERS

Have you ever wanted to learn how to make a pot using the potter's wheel? Students of all levels, ages 8-12 years will learn basic wheel skills. New students will start by learning to create a simple cylinder and progress to bowls and mugs with handles.
