Mask Wearing Protocols Update

The CDC and CT’s announcement of loosening of mask-wearing guidelines for vaccinated people indoors was welcome news, but it came about very quickly. We want to take into account the comfort levels of our students, visitors, and staff who may be apprehensive about such a sudden change.

We have only 3 weeks left in the spring semester–we’ve come this far! We think it makes sense to retain our mask-wearing guidelines through the end of the semester, June 5, in our school, shop, and gallery. By then, hopefully some of the confusion about these guidelines will be more resolved. We will continue to provide updates. In the meantime, we hope this will offer continued reassurance about your time spent at Guilford Art Center. As always, if you have any questions, please contact Maureen Belden at mbelden@guilfordartcenter.org. Thank you!

Glassblowing Studio Tour with Cedric Mitchell, June 18

Join GAC for an online studio tour on Friday, June 18, 7pm with Los Angeles-based glassblowing artist Cedric Mitchell. Mitchell will demonstrate his process in his “hot shop,” discuss his work, and answer questions about the techniques and artistry of this fascinating and captivating medium.

Mitchell hails from Oklahoma, and honed his skills while studying business at Tulsa Community College. He learned about glass art as an emerging local hip-hop artist, becoming an apprentice and instructor at The Tulsa Glassblowing School. Inspired by an eccentric mix of Graffiti Art, Pop Culture, Mid-Century Modern and Memphis Design, he creates work that ranges from functional to decorative, combining simplicity in design with bold colors. He is also Events and Resource Manager at Crafting the Future, a nonprofit organization that works to diversity the fields of art, craft and design by connecting BIPOC artists with opportunities that will help them thrive.

$10; Zoom link will be sent upon registration.

Register for Summer Classes & Workshops

The summer semester for adult classes and workshops runs from June 21- August 20. The majority of classes are now in-person (we’re so happy!), but we’re continuing several online classes for those not quite ready to come back to the Center, or who live out of town.

Class sizes for on-campus gatherings continue to be limited and with a strict masking mandate and safety protocols in place. We will stay in touch with students regarding any changes in safety guidelines for GAC for the coming months. Click here for a PDF catalog with clickable links to registration.

Financial Aid Forms Due June 11

Prospective GAC students are encouraged to apply for financial aid if it will better enable them to enroll in classes. Aid is based on need and may be limited to classes that do not otherwise have full enrollment. Click here to download and print a financial aid form. For more information, please email info@guilfordartcenter.org.

There is just creative expression. And we want to share all of that with you and our supportive community.
