“A Connecticut Welcome” in the Gallery
Take a quick look at the incredible fiber art currently hanging in the GAC gallery created by twenty-two members of the Connecticut Region of the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA). The exhibit runs from February 4 – March 5. The gallery is open 7 days a week, is free to enter and open to the community. Monday -Saturday, 10am-4pm, Sunday 12-4pm.
Fiber Art Card Making
After you’ve viewed the gallery exhibit, make a fiber art card! A packet of supplies including the cards will be available for purchase in the gift shop for $10. All proceeds will be donated to the Guilford Art Center. Each participant will receive two cards per package with material to make their cards. The par-ticipant will be able to design their card and then glue the material down to the card.
Packets will include: 2 cards with envelopes, Instructions, Material,Glue Stick, and Zoom dates and links to join online for further instruction and encouragement. Come to the shop to get all the information, materials and sign up for the interactive Zoom calls with SAQA members.
February Adult Workshops with Openings
HAND STICHED AMULETS
2 Fridays February 18 & 25, 9:30am-12:30pm
Instructor: Claudia Mathison
Spend a calming morning exploring meditative stitching and embroidery. Design and sew good fortune amulets using vintage fabric, lace, hand printed papers, charms and beads. Amulets may be a necklace, collage, small pillow or wall hanging. Tiny treasure, moments, and fabric scraps welcome.
PASTEL EXPLORATION – COLOR & TECHNIQUES WORKSHOP

Work with deep colors and values as we work from a. still-life arrangement. Fee free to be bold or blend softly. Explore contrasting uses of color as well as traditional applications for your pieces. Free yourself up in this forgiving medium.

MAKING A TOMAHAWK WORKSHOP
Saturday-Sunday, February 26-27, 10AM-5PM
Instructor: Aidan Garrity
Students will create a tomahawk using the slit and drift method. The instructor will also demonstrate the wrap and weld method and explain the variations. Topics covered will include forming the shape of the head, drifting the eye, fitting a handle, grinding and polishing the bit, heat treating and sharpening.
