2019 Year in Review & Looking Ahead

Over 2,000 students enrolled in over 400 classes and workshops during 4 semesters. We presented many new and innovative classes, along with our popular core offerings. We noticed a renewed interest in the “traditional arts,” such as calligraphy, sewing and creative writing.

We welcomed close to 200 people at our annual, free Open Arts Day, introducing our community members to GAC’s great instructors and facilities.

Our summer youth program welcomed a record number of students, as well as teenaged volunteers who assisted instructors and gained valuable experience working with kids.

Our artisans, visitors, volunteers and staff – loyal, all! – made it through on of the hottest Craft Expos on record, and we value their support. If you had to miss the show this year, we hope even more to see you in 2020! (Mark your calendars for July 17-19!)

The GAC gallery featured 8 exhibitions over our 9-month gallery season, including a vibrant show of our faculty’s art work, and exhibitions by community art organizations.

We celebrated “the summer of Jacques Pepin” introducing the renowned chef’s littler-known original art works in a gallery exhibition, and bringing huge audiences to our campus.

Our 4th resident potter, Dana Lofink, completed her tenure with a beautiful exhibition in our gallery, and we welcomed our fifth resident, Megan Mayall, continuing this enriching program for both our students and young, emerging artists.

Lucky teens who completed a weeklong filmmaking intensive with instructor Jeff Reilly had the chance to sit down with legendary filmmakers John Sayles and Maggie Renzi.

Our annual Soup for Good fundraiser was sold out, raising important funds for the Guilford Food Bank this year.

Over 250 American artists were featured in our Holiday Shop, providing our community with extraordinary, handmade gifts during the holiday season.

2020 brings even more momentum, as we plan an expansion of our school building, with added space for ceramics and weaving, and a brand new, multi-purpose studio, to best accommodate student learning.

THANK YOU for making GAC a place for ALL to enjoy the arts and connect with one another.

Happy New Year!
