School + Class Information

Welcome to our Spring Semester!

Online registration will open on February 22 at 10:00 am for Spring 2021 classes and workshops. Classes and workshops will begin the week of March 29, and are offered for adults, teens and youth. The spring semester runs from March 29 – June 5. Registration will continue to be online only.

The semester will continue to be a hybrid of on-campus and online offerings. Class sizes for on-campus gatherings will continue to be limited and with a strict masking mandate and all other protocols in place, in order to operate safely.

Classes and workshops are available in a variety of mediums, including beading, blacksmithing, calligraphy, ceramics, drawing, fiber arts, metalsmithing, painting, photography, sculpture, and weaving.

Blacksmithing classes include introductory sessions, forged blades, BBQ tools, and war hammers. Pottery students can pursue hand building and potter’s wheel techniques. Expanded fiber arts classes include Tunisian crochet, sewing machine basics, quilting, pattern making, and leaf and textile printing.

Painting classes include watercolors, figurative abstraction, pen & ink and intuitive painting. Drawing classes include portraiture, fashion drawing & design, pastels and art nouveau design. Metals includes introductory classes and metal casting. Special interest classes include monoprinting and collage.

Children’s classes include painting and drawing, clay, sewing, hand stitching and exploratory art. Blacksmithing for teens will be offered. April vacation daily workshops are scheduled for the week of April 12 for youth and teens.

Financial aid is available for adults and children based on need and interest. Forms are available on our website (see Financial Aid, under SCHOOL tab) and should be emailed to or mailed to GAC, PO Box 589, Guilford, CT 06437. Must be returned by January 4, 2021.

If a program is oversubscribed when a student’s payment is received, the student will be notified and the full amount will be refunded or may be applied toward another course. If a class or workshop is canceled due to insufficient enrollment, students will be notified and full tuition will be refunded or may be applied toward another course. Students who withdraw from a class or workshop up to two weeks before the first class are eligible for a full refund. Up to one week before the first class, students who withdraw are eligible for a credit, less a $25 registration fee. After that, consideration can only be given with a written medical excuse, or in the case of other extraordinary circumstances. Credits may only be for classes going forward from the date excuse is received by Guilford Art Center.

Students missing a regularly scheduled class will not receive a refund or a makeup class.

Classes not held due to bad weather or instructor’s absence will be rescheduled, usually at the end of the semester. Call 203.453.5947 for weather cancellations, which will be announced on the main phone message line .
