Remember You Must Live: On Life, Loss, and Impermanence
FREE Opening Reception • Saturday, October 10 • 2–4 PM

What does it mean to remember that life is finite – and how might that awareness change the way we live?

Guilford Art Center invites you to experience Remember You Must Live: On Life, Loss, and Impermanence, a group exhibition featuring artists from Connecticut and throughout New England. Inspired by the centuries-old concept of memento mori, the exhibition explores life, loss, memory, change and transformation – not as a meditation on death, but as an invitation to appreciate the preciousness of being alive.

“Remember You Must Live is ultimately less about death than it is about paying attention to life,” says GAC Executive Director Maureen Belden. “The exhibition asks us to pause and consider the beauty and complexity of being alive.”

GAC Education Coordinator Ashley Seneco adds, “I think that focusing on death through a fearful lens, robs us of the gift that is being alive. Remember You Must Live reminds us that although our time is finite, we have opportunities to seek kindness and connection while we are here.”

Join us for the FREE Opening Reception on Saturday, October 10 from 2–4 PM and meet others in our community while experiencing this thoughtful and moving exhibition.

Remember You Must Live is on view October 9–30, 2026.

The Gallery is open 7 days a week, Mon-Sat 10am-4pm, Sunday 12-4pm.
Admission is always free.
