GUATEMALAN WORRY DOLLS WORKSHOP

Worry dolls are small, handmade dolls that originate from the highland indigenous people of Guatemala. According to legend, when worrying keeps a person awake, he or she tells a worry to as many dolls as necessary. Then the worrier places the dolls under their pillow, and the dolls take over the worrying while the person sleeps peacefully through the night. We’ll make these enchanting dolls using a variety of sustainable materials, including traditional Guatemalan fabrics. All materials provided. . Fee payable with tuition $12.

FORGING A TRIVET WORKSHOP

Trivets are a classic cooking tool used to element a pot or pan tin the hearth over a bed of coals for cooking, or as an item to place on the table. This workshops is a great introduction to forge welding for those looking to gain that skill set. Students will have the option to make one trivet with the possibility of forging up to the welding step on a second trivet, time permitting. Skills highlighted in this project are forging to specific measurements, accurately bending material, managing odd shaped items in the fire, upsetting and scarf theory and practice, weld and fire preparation, gauging temperatures. Fee payable with tuition $45.

In this fun, guided expressive painting and printmaking process participants access inspiration from nature and follow their intuitive voice to create a large abstract layered painting. Stay curious as your artwork transforms and reveals itself. Transform your artwork again into a pocket folio for mementos, journal cards or meditations. All materials provided. PAINTERLY CONTEMPORARY CROCHET WORKSHOP

If you like Sheila Hicks, Anni Albers, Hundertwasser, and Matisse, you’ll enjoy this class in color and stitching. Think of what attracts you in magazines and catalogs, and make vivid crochet needlework with the same appeal. Crochet slouchy string bags, gypsy coin pouches, mandalas, and crowns from basic and versatile crochet stitches, in splashes of color. Learn chain stitch, single and double crochet stitches, and a few fun extras while making a free-form medallion and starting a bag.
