The Guilford Art League welcomes exhibiting artists for its 75th Annual Juried Exhibit & Sale to be held in The Gallery at Guilford Art Center from September 11 – September 30, 2023. The show, juried by Jeanne Criscola, is open to Connecticut artists working in all media including oils, watercolor, pastels, acrylics, sculpture, collage, mixed media, printmaking, and photography. Several monetary prizes and notable awards will be announced at the Opening Reception on Thursday, September 14, 5-7pm.
Jeanne Criscola is principal of Criscola Design, an award-winning studio focused on social justice and human rights projects. Their work spans decades of publication design created for Soros’ Open Society Foundations with one in MoMA’s Franklin Furnace Artists’ Book Collection. Jeanne’s design practice includes objects, experiences, curatorial and exhibition design, and cultural production of books with the imprint OctoberWorks.com. She has exhibited drawings, moving images, installations, generative art, performances, and books in international venues. Her recent book is A Mouth Full: The Re-Cookbook, with Joan Fitzsimmons. Jeanne founded the Ely Center of Contemporary Art in New Haven, and co-founded Else Foundation, a global consortium publishing Else, a peer-reviewed journal of experimental and alternative works, projects, and research. Currently, Jeanne is a Professor of Graphic/Information Design at Central Connecticut State University.
Artists are invited to enter up to two pieces of art. Entry fees for GAL members are $15 for one entry, $25 for two; non-members pay $25 for one entry, $35 for two. Entries must be delivered to the Gallery at Guilford Art Center (411 Church Street, Guilford, CT 06437) on Saturday, September 9 between 10am and 1pm. Accepted works will be posted on the GAL website by September 12.
The Guilford Art League was founded in 1947 by a small group of local artists. The objective of the art league is to promote and stimulate interest in the visual arts. Members and associates of the Guilford Art League are a participating and interactive group of artists who learn and benefit from their association with one another.
