The Guilford Art League welcomes exhibiting artists for its 76th Annual Juried Exhibit & Sale to be held in The Gallery at Guilford Art Center from September 9 – September 28, 2024. The show, juried by Alexa MacCrady, is open to Connecticut artists working in all media including oils, watercolor, pastels, acrylics, sculpture, collage, mixed media, printmaking, and photography. Several monetary prizes and notable awards will be announced at the Opening Reception on Friday, September 13, 5-7pm.
Alexa MacCrady has been active in the contemporary art world since early solo exhibitions in the NYC East Village in 1986, and in Paris using the pseudonym Lady MacRady. Classically trained at an early age, she sought professors of theory: Pop, Action Painting, AbEx, Conceptual. After a Syracuse University VPA BFA, she gained notice for editorial art in major New York media and publishers until her thesis on The Sublime and MFA from Hunter College CUNY. Solo and museum biennials and shows continue to the present. An adjunct art professor, she also teaches adult painting at Guilford Art Center. Her studio in Madison is on the Shoreline Arts Trail. “I’m looking for work that reaches beyond the expected best skills, to reveal personal themes and theories.”
Artists are invited to enter up to two pieces of art. Entry fees for GAL members are $20 for one entry, $30 for two; non-members pay $30 for one entry, $40 for two. Entries must be delivered to the Gallery at Guilford Art Center (411 Church Street, Guilford, CT 06437) on Saturday, September 7 between 10am and 1pm. Accepted works will be posted on the GAL website by September 10.
The Guilford Art League was founded in 1947 by a small group of local artists. The objective of the art league is to promote and stimulate interest in the visual arts. Members and associates of the Guilford Art League are a participating and interactive group of artists who learn and benefit from their association with one another.
