Ceramics Biennial CFA, Weekend Workshops, Open Mic Tonight & More

Calling all ceramic artists!

Call for Submissions deadline is April 8 for the CERAMICS BIENNIAL 2024 exhibit. Exhibition Dates: June 28-August 4, 2024. This exhibition is open to all works which use clay as the primary medium, both utilitarian and sculptural. The exhibition will present the variety of ways contemporary ceramics furthers craft traditions, explores innovative approaches, and serves as a medium for creating compelling new art works. Open to U.S. residents. Juror: Kathy King, an active studio artist in the Boston area and is an instructor and the Director of the Ceramics Program and Visual Arts Initiatives at the Office for the Arts at Harvard. Awards: $500 in prizes to be awarded by the juror Entry Fee: $25.00

GLASS MOSAIC WINDOW WORKSHOP
Saturday, April 6

Instructor: Janice Baker
Dive into colors, textures and shapes to create up-cycled glass mosaic art for your home. Use wood frames and colorful glass pieces, beads and ephemera provided or bring a favorite piece to personalize your art. Finished artwork is approx 8″x10″. Fee payable with tuition $55

CHARCOAL DRAWING WORKSHOP
Sunday, April 7
10:00am-12:00pm
Instructor: Lisa Arnold
Drawing with charcoal is a great way to learn about light and dark shading, form and other techniques. Once a drawing tool for the great masters, we will draw and blend with specific charcoal supplies. Explore still-life set-ups, study hands, eyes and much more.

FLORAL PAINT ALONG WORKSHOP
Saturday, April 6
10:30am-3:30pm
Instructor: Lenny Moskowitz
Let’s paint large! This one-day workshop is an opportunity to paint a 30″x30″ canvas. A guided “paint along”, great for any level of experience; including those who wish to stretch their skills through working larger and those new to painting. There will be lots of room for playfulness. All materials (canvas, paint, brushes, etc) will be provided. Fee payable with tuition $30

New Ceramic Work in the Shop

Clay artist Zach Dunn just brought in a whole new range of work, including bowls, platters, vases and stunning sculpted fruits (those will go quickly!). About Zach: He received his Master of Fine Arts from Syracuse University and his BA from The College of William and Mary in Virginia. His work has been exhibited in numerous exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Zach recently relocated to Trumbull, CT. He is also an active member of the DS Institute, an international artist collective aimed at creating contextual artwork that responds to its direct environment but has larger cultural applications. He is also an object maker and believes in the intrinsic value of the handmade entity. The Shop is open 7 days a week. Monday – Saturday 10am-4pm, Closed on Easter Sunday. GAC members receive 10% off purchases.

 


 

Tonight! Literary Open Mic Night at GAC

GAC is hosting a Literary Open Mic, tonight, Friday April 5 from 7PM – 9PM. GAC will welcome special guest Bookish Babes and Brews for a “Blind Date with a Book” that will coincide with the event. The Literary Open Mic Night is a collaborative effort between Guilford Art Center and local social media influencer duo, Bookish Babes & Brews. This unique event aims to provide a platform for writers of all genres and backgrounds to showcase their work in a supportive and inclusive environment.Sign-ups start at 7, with performances by 7:30. Performers are invited to read an example of their own written work of poetry, prose, short stories and excerpts from novels, but are also welcome to perform work written by someone else. Please note: Performance slots will be up to 5 min long. Writers interested in participating are encouraged to sign up in advance; registrations are also accepted at the event. Designers Circus Spring Clothing Pop-Up Event

Ready for some fresh spring fashion? Come shop at the Designers Circus pop-up shopping event at Guilford Art Center from April 18-20. Designers Circus is Boston’s premier destination for creative women’s clothing at 50 to 90% below boutique prices, a pop up event and experience in social shopping, all in one! You can find unique and few of a kind women’s clothing and accessories created by over 70 local, national, and international designers. Designers Circus offers artful casual, work and special event clothing for women of all ages and sizes. The sale will be open on Thursday, April 18 from 10am – 5pm, Friday, April 19 from 10am-5pm, and Saturday April 20 from 11am-3pm. Admission is free and all are welcome.
