Forging Spoons Workshop
Instructor: Marsha Trattner
Adult Workshop
Adult all levels
June 02
Sunday, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

This blacksmithing class will teach the basic traditional skills to forge spoons, emphasizing hand forging, utility, and individual expression. Transform steel round, square and flat stock, as well as sheet metal, into table spoons, cooking spoons, tasting spoons, cocktail stir spoons, and scoops. Drawing down, forge welding, spreading, sinking, riveting, planishing, twisting, and scrolling, are just some of the techniques that will turn plain metal into something beautiful and practical. Students will need safety glasses, dust mask or respirator, leather work gloves, (welding gauntlets not needed) and should wear jeans, a non-flammable cotton shirt and/or jacket, and closed-toed boots or leather shoes. Our forge is an outdoor building that is only semi-enclosed; please dress accordingly. For full-day workshops, please bring a lunch to be on the safe side, as there may or may not be time to get food during a lunch break.
