Fall is a busy time at Guilford Art Center! There are still plenty of opportunities for you or your child to take a class or workshop in our fall semester, so check our catalog HERE.

Upcoming Classes

Shapes in Crochet
Instructor: Netra Garani
4 Saturdays beginning Oct 26, 9:30am-12:30pm
Learn different types of shapes to crochet such as circles, granny squares and hexagons using the basic stitches. Read the pattern and create a small project like a coaster, bag or purse. Tuition $156; GAC members $140.

Crochet Accessories
Instructor: Netra Garani
4 Sundays beginning Oct 27, 9:30am-12:30pm
Crochet holiday gifts such as a scarf, ornaments, coasters, or a scarf with matching beanie. Prerequisite: basic crochet stitches (chain, single crochet, half double, double crochet). Tuition $156, GAC members $140.40.

Free Middle School Drop-in Workshops on Early Dismissal Day Oct 23
Instructor: Renee Soares
Middle School students are welcome to drop in between 1:15 – 3:15 pm on Wednesday, Oct 23 on the early dismissal day to discover the world of graffiti art. There is so much diversity and applications in this art form. It will be a really fun session! Take an afternoon to enjoy being creative with friends. No need to register. FREE.

Halloween Crafts for Kids Workshop: Session B
Instructor: Carole Firth
Sunday, October 27, 3:30-5:30pm
Children (ages 5+) will learn how to make animals lanterns from clay that will glow in the window or porch step on Halloween night. We’ll make other creations during the workshop, so if you love Halloween and art, this is for you!
Fee payable with tuition $15
Tuition $30; GAC members $27

New Date! Sashiko Mending Workshop
Instructor: Claudia Mathison
Sunday, October 20, 1:00-5:00pm
Whether you have holes that need mending or want to decorate your clothing, you’ll explore sashiko techniques to create functional artful patches. Bring in clothing or textiles for mending or embellishment. Threads, stitching patterns, embroidery floss, needles, denim and linen fabric provided. Fee payable with tuition $30
Tuition $52; GAC members $46.80

 


 

Join us on October 22 to a special screening of The Quilters, a new documentary by local filmmaker Jenifer McShane.

There will be two screenings at Madison Cinemas: 6:00pm and 7:15pm. Tickets are $35 and include the movie, drink/popcorn and Q&A session with Jenifer and Scott Ruderman, Director of Photography. All proceeds will benefit GAC; we are thankful for your support of Jen’s work and the Center.

Upcoming Events – Save the Date

Where do you find gifts for everyone on your list? Holiday Expo, your favorite place to shop for fine, handcrafted holiday gifts, opens for the season on November 1. We fill the shop and gallery with work from hundreds of artists from CT and beyond. This year we’ll have even more painting and photography work by local artists.

Soup for Good is back! Our potters are hard at work in the clay studio making soup bowls for this annual event. This delicious fundraiser for the Guilford Food Bank and GAC will take place Sunday, November 24, 1-3pm. Tickets will go on sale soon.
