New! AUTHORS IN THE SHOP Series
Guilford Art Center is excited to welcome local authors Julie Fitzpatrick, Mary O’Connor, Jen Payne, and Catherine Steinberg to its AUTHORS IN THE SHOP series hosted by Three Chairs Publishing. For four Saturdays in November, authors will be in The Shop signing books and talking with Holiday Expo shoppers from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.

Soups on! SOUP FOR GOOD 2024
Tickets are now on sale for this beloved fundraiser for Guilford Food Bank and GAC. Tickets are $40 and include a choice of 3 homemade soups, bread, and wine. Participants will get to choose from hundreds of unique handmade bowls, made in the ceramics studio by GAC pottery instructors and students.
Participants will pick up their “to go” food and ceramic bowl at GAC on Sunday, November 24 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Guilford Art Center.

Upcoming Workshops – Blacksmithing & Metals
Making a Tomahawk Workshop
Instructor: Aidan Garrity
Saturday-Sunday, Nov 9-10, 10:00am-5:00pm
Students will forge a tomahawk using the slit and drift method. The instructor will also demonstrate the wrap and weld method and explain the variations. Blacksmith topics will include forming head shape, drifting the eye, fitting a handle, grinding, polish, heat treating and sharpening. Fee payable with tuition $30

The Bowie Knife Workshop
Instructor: Mace Vitale
Thursday – Monday-Sunday, Nov 14-18, 10:00am-5:00pm
Five-day intensive to learn about forging, grinding and heat treating this iconic blade. Once the blades are ready, students will create a guard and handle using steel and wood. Attention will be made to the feel and balance of these knives as well as the edge geometry and performance. Fee payable with tuition $45

Metal Clay Rings & More Workshop
Instructor: Nancy Karpel
Sunday, November 17, 10:00am-4:00pm
Students will use several ring forming techniques using fine silver metal clay. Learn how to flush-set synthetic stones for firing in metal clay. Making of cold-molds will be demonstrated and students will use them in ring making. This workshop is for students with some experience working with metal clay.
