Building on the basic tabby weave, explore the design possibilities of longer “floats” which result in double-sided patterns reminiscent of traditional quilting motifs. You’ll complete both coordinating potholders in class.

Potholder Weaving: Tabby Weaving on a Peg Loom

Using 100% cotton loop materials from a New England family-owned mill and a sturdy metal peg loom, create a coordinating pair of potholders with your choice of color ways in a classic tabby weave, featuring herringbone and gingham patterns. You’ll finish at least one potholder in class and be able to complete the other at home. You’ll also learn how to read a weaving chart and some time saving tips.

Summer Botanicals: Mixed Media Collage

Students will use summer botanicals to create a variety of mixed media artworks. Students can work on paper and /or on 3 dimensional surfaces such as wood , glass, ceramic ,cardboard , recycled tin cans and other found objects. A variety of materials to explore will be provided such as; inks, acrylics, various glues, flowers ,leaves,grasses and different kinds of papers. Students may bring in ideas, materials ,images, and objects that interest them. If you like to experiment , recycle and summer botanicals , this class is for you! (Teens are welcome!)

I typically provide materials and ideas and examples. I foster students with encouragement and guidance and allow them to explore their own styles and inner intuitive artistic methods.

Learn the Art of Weaving with Paper

Instead of the traditional way of weaving with yarn, you will create a color weave pattern with paper strips of colored and patterned papers choosing different color combinations to create your design on heavy paper as a finished woven work of art.

Nature Assemblage Cabinet

Create a place to explore and display a collection of nature objects, memorabilia and images. Choose from my found treasures and bring your favorites to create a cabinet or box style living journal that can include a variety of mediums of your choice including paper collage, found object mosaic, printmaking, drawing, painting and story.

Nature’s Impressions in Clay Series

Ceramics

Create, paint and seal small impressions of natural materials or sculpt a low relief tile inspired by the forms and textures in nature. Develop a practice of mindful observation, collection of found materials and creative expression. We will learn an air-dry process that produces strong lightweight pieces suitable for use in jewelry, mixed media or enjoyed as they are. All materials will be provided.

Sparkling Mosaic Workshop

Choose from this instructor’s collection of glass pieces, ephemera and faceted beads to create a square mosaic window. Wood frames are 5” x 5”. Make a Mosaic Garden Sculpture

Learn how to cut and shape a foam base into a simple shape, add wire for hanging, and then cover your creation with mosaic tile. We will use thinset mortar and glass tiles so that your finished piece will be weather-proof for outside placement in all four seasons. Beginners welcome! Fee payable with tuition $60.00
