Intro to Metalsmithing – Jewelry: Session B

Metals and Jewelry Classes

This introductory studio course provides a foundation in essential jewelry fabrication techniques. Students will learn to measure, saw, file, solder, form, and finish sheet metal and wire metal through guided projects and exercises. Projects may include spinner rings, stacker rings, single-stone ring, or pendant. Basic cabochon stone-setting methods will be introduced, along with an emphasis on design planning, craftsmanship, and safe studio practice. By the end of the course, students will complete several small wearable pieces that demonstrate confidence in basic metalsmithing skills. Beginner’s sampler kits are available for purchase from the instructor, and are subject to change with market prices.

Intermediate Metalsmithing – Jewelry: Session B

Metals and Jewelry Classes

Building on foundational metalsmithing skills developed in Jewelry I, this intermediate-level course emphasizes precision, design development, and expanded stone-setting techniques. Students will refine soldering, fabrication, and finishing methods while creating complex instructor-guided projects. Topics may include advanced fabrication, surfaces treatments, forming techniques, and a variety of stone setting techniques. This course may be repeated, as techniques and project focus will vary from session to session. Jewelry I or equivalent Intro experience required.

Metals and Jewelry

Learn to work with Silver Metal Clay, a versatile material that feels like clay but becomes pure silver when fired. This workshop covers forming, texturing, firing, finishing, and flush setting of gemstones (optional stones available for purchase). Perfect for beginners and artists of all kinds—no prior jewelry experience needed. Finish and take home your own unique silver jewelry pieces while exploring the endless design possibilities of this exciting material.
Materials fee of $110.00 is payable to instructor at class and includes metal clay, use of tools, supplies and handouts, this fee is subject to change with the cost of materials on the metals market. This class has a required materials list.

This class is structured for students with metalworking experience to focus on their own interests. Students will select and design their own projects and receive guidance to execute them. Focus will be on enriching design skills and addressing artistic intent.

Additional techniques will be introduced based on class interest, with guidance to foster creativity and design skills. Please attend the first class and bring a notebook and pen.

Fun w Metals: Session C 8/10-14 Week 8

Metals and Jewelry Classes

Experience working in the metalsmithing studio and learn to stamp, hammer, fold, bend, cut, twist, shape, and heat metal to make jewelry and mini sculpture. Students will play with copper and brass sheet metal and wire to create 2 and 3 dimensional objects and forms from nature to wear or hang. Explore using basic hand tools, such as, hammers, mallets, saws, cutters, files, pliers, and torches (one-on-one with instructor) to have fun with metal!

Teen Metalsmithing 7/27-31 Week 6
