Shoreline Premier of Jenifer McShane’s Documentary “The Quilters” to benefit Guilford Art Center

Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Jenifer McShane will debut her latest film, The Quilters, to the shoreline audience with a special premiere event on Tuesday, October 22 at Madison Cinemas in Madison, CT.  All proceeds from the premiere will benefit the Guilford Art Center, a non-profit dedicated to fostering creativity and artistic education in the local community.

“The Quilters” is a 32-minute documentary, that follows the daily lives of several men inside the sewing room in a Level 5 maximum security prison in a small Missouri town. Audiences will come to know these men, witnessing their struggles, triumphs, and sense of pride as they create something beautiful in this windowless, sacred space, deep within the prison walls. Through this process and the relationships forged audiences will witness the power of art to restore an individual’s view of themselves and others.

McShane, whose previous documentaries (Ernie & Joe: Crisis Cops, Mothers of Bedford) have received critical acclaim, turns her lens toward these everyday artists with empathy and nuance.

The event will begin with a screening of The Quilters at 6 pm and 7:15 pm, with each screening followed by a Q&A session with Jenifer McShane and Director of Photography, Scott Ruderman. There will be displays of quilts made by the quilting group on display in the cinema lobby.

“We are thrilled to host this shoreline screening of The Quilters,” said Maureen Belden, Executive Director of the Guilford Art Center. “Jen’s film beautifully captures the essence of craft as a means of connection and expression. We are proud to partner with her in celebrating these remarkable artists while raising funds to support our mission of nurturing the arts in our community.”
