Summer Adult Classes Begin Next Week, New Gallery Show, Summer Youth Continues

The Adult Summer Semester begins next week!

Register now to start a class next week in blacksmithing, ceramics, drawing, fiber, glass, metals, painting, photography, sculpture and weaving. There are opportunities for 4 week and 8 week classes and 1-day workshops. Find something that suits your interest and your schedule. (Summer Adult Catalog)

 


 

Last call for Spring Blacksmith Workshops

Both of these workshops are open to students who are beginners or have experience.

Intro to the Hand Forged Blade Workshop
June 22-23, 10am-5pm
Learn the basics of forging, grinding, heat treating and sharpening of a small utility knife. Instructor Mace Vitale will discuss fit and finish, overall design, how to sharpen and care for your knives and how to begin making them on your own.

The War Hammer Workshop
June 29-30, 10am-5pm
Students will hot punch holes in 1 1/4″ round bar, split the face of the hammer and then forge metal spike off the back end. Heat treat and hickory handles – then testing on a steel drum!

Last days of “The Third Place”: Guilford’s student-led teen Art Club

This multi-media exhibition explores the significance of a space which is not work/school or home – but a third place – and its role in fostering innovation of thinking, creativity, and establishing a sense of belonging. The gallery is open 7 days a week (Mon-Sat 10am-4pm, Sun 12-4pm); free entry.

 


 

Save the Date, June 28, for new Gallery Opening Reception

Guilford Art Center is pleased to announce its newest gallery exhibition, entitled Ceramics Biennial 2024: A National Juried Exhibition, from June 28 – Aug 4 in the gallery at Guilford Art Center. All are invited to the Opening Reception on Friday, June 28, 5-7pm.

This exhibition presents contemporary works in clay, both functional and non-functional, by over 40 American artists from across the nation. It represents a fascinating overview of the variety of ways ceramic artists further craft traditions, explore innovative approaches, and utilize this ancient medium for creating compelling new works.
