WIRE CHAIN MAKING WORKSHOP

Explore chain making with wire, hand tools and a little imagination to build samples, Learn how to make the Egyptian spiral chain, Viking (knitted) chain, wire wrapped links with beads and basic link chains. Master the manipulation of different wire guages as you wrap, bend, knit, hammer and spiral your way to a finished piece. Materials fee $25 payable to instructor.

COLLAGE & PAINT: PERSONAL SHAPES & SYMBOLS WORKSHOP

Working in collage and painting, learn more about who you are and what you want to do. Cultural anthropologist Angeles Arrien tells of 5 universal signs or symbols and how to use them in your creative work (her book is Signs of Life). Beginning with an exercise she developed, learn which shapes are most personally relevant, then choose from gathered papers, illustrations, writings, etc. to create a collage-painting that helps with self awareness while making art. Book purchase optional. Fee payable with tuition $15.

FLOWER METAL EARRINGS WORKSHOP SESSION B

Nothing signals springtime more than flowers! We will make flower and leaf earrings using wire and thin sheet metal. Commercial flower stampings will be available to try. Ear wires will be attached; metals include brass, bronze, copper and silver wire and sheet metal. Cost of silver and base metal will run $10 to $30.

FORGING SPOONS WORKSHOP

Instructor: Marsha Trattner
Learn the basic traditional skills to forge spoons, emphasizing hand forging, utility and individual expression. Transform steel round, square and flat stock, as well as sheet metal, into table spoons, cooking spoons, tasting spoons cocktail stir spoons and scoops. Drawing down, forge welding, spreading, sinking, riveting, planishing, twisting and scrolling are just some of the techniques that will turn plain metal into something beautiful and practical. Materials fee payable with tuition $45.
