Encaustic, a beeswax-based paint, worked while heated and melted, has properties that no other medium possesses and it comes in the most gorgeous colors, both opaque and transparent. It hardens almost immediately, allowing each layer to remain intact so it can be excavated and revealed when carved or scraped. Texture can be built up very quickly without the need for drying between layers. It can be printed on, drawn on, and is compatible with oil paint, which is used to enhance surface textures. It is also naturally adhesive, perfect for collage. Theis two-day class will afford lots of time to experiment.
Come and try this ancient and still modern medium for yourself. Beginners and advanced are welcome.
