Come explore the art of Mexico by creating skull luminaries in the tradition of Mexican Day of the Dead. This vibrant, colorful, celebration in Mexican culture reminds humans of the symbiotic relationship of life and death, choosing to honor ancestors, with art, costumes, music, dancing, parade, food, flowers, and reverie. In this workshop, we will use self-hardening clay to form the skull luminaries. We will learn how to carve traditional patterns such as flowers, swirls and butterflies and be able to decorate them with a variety of materials like craft jewels, sequins, and marigold flowers.
