Tonight! Come Patchwork with us from 5-7pm!

Tonight come join us from 5PM – 7PM with an open studio workshop in our school building, during which participants will receive a square to decorate at one (or all) of our creation stations. For the remainder of the weekend, visitors can stop by the gallery foyer during business hours decorate a square and create with other community members. The squares will then be attached together, culminating in a community-made quilt which represents how all our lives and stories are woven together.

Bring your friends, family – anyone that you want to create with! It’s free and open to all.

In the Lobby

Exhibit of work by local Madison painter, Don Keene

Our lobby showcase gallery features a selection of fifteen works encompassing both reality and abstraction, spanning the past twenty-three years of Don’s work. In this exhibit representational images of landscape scenes reminiscent of Edward Hopper and the early 20th American Impressionists lodge comfortably and harmonically, though simultaneously in start contrast with, thickly executed and expressive oil imaginings more reminiscent of Edvard Munch’s famous work, “The Scream”. Winding up the display are four small imaginative watercolors, conceived by Keene in his studio, as part of what he considers his “morning exercises”, within the past two months. Tying these disparate works together is the evidence throughout of a deft facility for handling paint in tandem with bravura drawing skills and a generous love of luxuriant color.

This exhibit can be viewed anytime during our business hours and is free to attend.
Guilford Art Center is open Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 12-4pm.
