Become more confident as a portraitist and capture the personality of your subject in your art. Students already confident in a medium other than graphite pencil (e.g. oil, acrylic, pastels, etc.) should feel free to bring them to class. Otherwise, prepare to draw with pencil and bring a 9 x12 sketch pad, a few soft pencils (anything from 6B to 9B), and, preferably, a kneaded eraser.

Beginning Oil Painting

Whether you’re picking up a brush for the first time or returning after a long break, this 10-week course is designed to give you a solid foundation in oil painting.We will move at a measured pace and follow a detailed lesson plan so students know what to expect in each session. Express Yourself In Oil Paints

Painting Classes

Explore the vibrant colors, textures, and timeless beauty of oil paints. Learn about values, color mixing, texture, edges and how to select a good composition. Instructor will cover the materials used in oil painting, including paint, brushes, surfaces, and medium. Instructor will demonstrate a variety of painting techniques and will provide individual and class instruction and informative handouts for each topic. Contemporary Painting – New Aesthetics

Painting Classes

Explore contemporary art making and journaling as a way to capture your lived experiences. Draw inspiration from holiday travels, interiors, or weekly colorful still-life setups. Learn to experiment with color, brushwork, and composition in abstract, realistic, or hybrid styles. Each class concludes with a supportive group critique to inspire growth and reflection. Color, Color, and More Color! 8/3-7 Week 7

Drawing

This class focuses on exploring and learning about color while creating two dimensional work. Students will experiment with how color works across a variety of materials – sometimes using them on their own or combining them in creative ways. Projects will range from small to medium works, with at least one larger piece that brings everything together.

3-Dimensional Art 8/10-14 Week 8

Drawing

Students will create 3-dimensional projects using a variety of materials. We will be creating clay sculptures, building with wooden shapes, making paper mache creatures, experimenting with fibers, constructing buildings from cardboard – and more!

Art Station 6/29-7/2 Week 2

Decorative Arts

Draw, paint, and collage what you choose with the support of the teacher and classmates.  Air dry clay and textile materials will also be available. Learn how to enjoy your process and grow as an artist. Develop your skills, and maybe make a friend along the way.
